The Importance of Being Present

I caught this beautiful moment yesterday between Sophie Allain of A S - Animal Osteopathy and one of our horses.

Primarily an osteopath, Sophie is also Reiki trained, which is handy when Dainty is having one of her "don't touch me (yet)" days.

My Reiki teacher Frans once said, "let them take from you what they need", and it impressed me greatly.

Our job in life is to hold a sacred space; mostly for ourselves so we can function, but we also have the ability to extend that to others. When we do this we feel seen, heard and understood. In that moment everything is perfect and we experience the bliss of being present. It's the most relaxing state our nervous system can experience.

Being in the moment is where there is sufficient space and freedom for balance and harmony to be restored. This is handy when you're too ouchy for touch and too touchy for a treatment.

By holding a sacred space you are saying, "I see you, I hear you, I feel you". We acknowledge the connection between ourselves and the other as one experience. Our experience becomes one. There is no conflict, only oneness.

Work at it

Children are naturally present, they haven't had it taught out of them yet - but as an adult I've needed to work at it.

I've benefited from a teacher, guidance and encouragement along my journey, and experiencing the opposite of what I wanted to show me where I've drifted off into thinking about the future or the past. I've also needed friends and peers to keep me on track, dust me off when I've taken a tumble, and encourage me to get back up again.

Being present takes courage, enormous courage I find - it isn't for the faint hearted. It's much easier to blame everyone and everything else instead of looking at our own shortcomings and working on our Self.

But the rewards are worth it.

Dainty did get a treatment in the end, we broke it into two goes and went back to it at a later time.

She demonstrates to us time and time again the importance of listening, working with reality and the simple value of being present.

Well done and thank you to Sophie for being such a superstar and understanding what our horses need, and thank you to both of you for sharing this moment.
